Staff care was fine, but lack of communication to patients. I was lying on a bed with suspected lower spinal trauma so unable to move. Took 2 hours to get an x-ray and was left in a corridor unattended, along with many others. No communication or idea of where in the queue - maybe an updating display board. When you are lying a bed worrying if you will be okay it is very much like you have been abandoned - someone in admin should try it to see from a patient's perspective. Staff all very helpful, but system is shaky.
My care in this hospital could not have been better. The food I was given while
I was in there was every time to my satisfaction. WELL DONE, Bill Farley
I have been treated at southend hospital in the last 6 months - the maternity ward and A&E.
The maternity ward provides great service, specifically the midwife and trainee midwife I was looked after by. The safe arrival of our baby and the care provided during and after my labour was second to none.
The timeliness of assessment and treatment whilst visiting A&E was also to a high standard. My visit was compelted within an hour and at no point did I feel that it was rushed.
Southend hospital has been great for me, i was admitted in 3 times last year and I was always looked after by all staff on the Blenheim ward. Someone would always make an effort to come to the rooms just for a chat, always made the day go quicker, seeing as i was in there for 11 days. Mr doctor on the renal unit, Dr Almond has been great also. Couldn't ask for a better doctor,i have a rare kidney disease and he is always finding new information for me about disease. He has always been there for support during the harder times and he will always tell it as it is. Dr Almond is a great doctor and I would recommend highly.
Nice people working under stressful situations, but, still find time to listen and help
Made to wait absolutely ages for a blood test, and the people taking care of the operation were not at all polite. The people doing the blood taking were fantastic, 5 stars. Getting an appointment was also easy.
I have only had these opinions since being under Dr Philip Kelly, before this my care in the diabetic unit was less than satisfactory , my eye care is now being dealt with by moorfields hospital as the treatment i got at southend was poor, this Doctor should have a voice in the running of this hospital it would then be first class with the priority being its patients.
Hospital is always clean but is so busy and waiting times are always so long for everything. But Southend hospital does try its best and cant really help waiting times.
Medical staff [& receptionist] very good. Access/Parking could be better.
Waiting time too long. Appeared to be lot of non-medical staff about, but not many nurses etc.
Overall good, helpful support .
